Tire maintenance made simple

Tires wear, lose pressure and age whether or not anyone is watching. Maintenance is the routine that keeps them road-ready: correct pressure, adequate tread, timely rotation, and an eye on damage and age. This hub gathers the checks and intervals that matter, and explains what each one protects against.

Start here

The single most useful habit is checking tire pressure when the tires are cold, at least monthly and before long trips, then topping up to the figure on the driver\’s door placard. Soon after, learn to read tread depth, because worn tread lengthens stopping distances, especially in rain. Rotate your tires on the interval in your owner\’s manual to even out wear, and have balance and alignment checked if you notice vibration or uneven wear. Inspect sidewalls for cuts and bulges, and be aware of tire age, since rubber degrades over time even with little tread wear. Replace tires that are worn, damaged or past their safe service life.

Our maintenance guide covers the full routine. The focused guides below explain pressure and tread checks in detail.

A simple learning pathway

Maintenance is a loop: notice, check, then act before small issues grow.

Step 1

Identify what changed

Pressure warnings, vibration or visible wear each point to a different check.

Step 2

Choose the right check

Use a gauge, a tread tool or a visual inspection as needed.

Step 3

Compare what to do

Decide between topping up, rotating, or booking a professional inspection.

Useful tool

The converter switches between PSI, bar and kPa so you can match any gauge to your placard. It converts units only and does not state the correct pressure for your vehicle.

Safety and editorial note

Always follow your vehicle and tire manufacturer’s figures for pressure, rotation and replacement. This is general guidance and does not replace the owner’s manual or a qualified inspection.
