Tire Safety Disclaimer

TireHelpGuide publishes general educational information about tires. It is not professional advice, it cannot account for your specific vehicle or situation, and it does not replace your manufacturer’s instructions. Please read this disclaimer before acting on anything you read here.

General information and safety boundaries

Everything on this site is general information written for a wide audience of drivers. Tires, vehicles, tools and conditions vary enormously, and a piece of advice that suits one situation may be wrong or unsafe for another. We do not know your vehicle, your tires, your tools or your location, and we cannot tailor our content to them. When our guidance and your manufacturer’s documentation differ, your manufacturer’s documentation governs.

No professional substitute

Our content is not a substitute for the instructions in your vehicle owner’s manual or for the judgement of a qualified tire or automotive professional. Jacking points, wheel nut torque figures, tire pressures, load limits, tire sizes and spare tire restrictions are specific to your vehicle and are set by its manufacturer. Pickup and SUV models differ from cars; vehicles with all-wheel drive, performance brakes or unusual wheels may have particular requirements. Before doing any work on your vehicle, consult the relevant documentation and, where appropriate, a professional.

Roadside and mechanical risk

Working on a vehicle carries real physical risk. Changing a tire at the roadside puts you close to moving traffic, and a jack can slip or fail if it is not rated for the vehicle or not used on firm, level ground. A vehicle supported only by a jack can fall. Damaged tires can fail suddenly, and some damage — a bulge, a cut, or exposed cords — cannot be repaired or driven on safely. We describe safer approaches and, where the risk is high, we tell you to stop and seek professional help. You remain responsible for deciding whether a task is safe for you to attempt in your circumstances.

Calculators and estimates

Our calculators produce estimates based on the inputs you provide and on stated assumptions. They are planning aids. They do not inspect your tires, verify your vehicle’s requirements, or certify that anything is safe or compliant. Rounding, unit conversion and the variability of real-world conditions mean an estimate can differ from the exact figure for your vehicle. Use your manufacturer’s specifications for any decision that matters.
